Travel planning is one of AI’s strongest areas. It doesn’t just give you a generic itinerary β€” when prompted well it can match activities to your actual energy level, find the right type of stay, and surface things you wouldn’t find in a TripAdvisor top 10.

The Recipe

I'm planning a weekend getaway to [destination or general area β€” city, region, type of place].

About the trip:
- Travel party: [solo / couple / friends / family with kids]
- Vibe: [cozy and slow / active and outdoorsy / food-focused / culture and history / mix]
- Budget: [budget / mid-range / I don't mind spending]
- Dates: [specific or just "a weekend in summer / fall / etc."]

Give me:
1. 2–3 accommodation options that match the vibe (with what makes each one different)
2. A loose Saturday itinerary β€” morning, afternoon, evening
3. A Sunday plan that's lower effort (I'll be tired)
4. One thing in the area most visitors miss
5. One thing that sounds good in theory but to skip in practice

Variations

Local escape version β€” don’t know where to go yet:

I want to get out of [your city] for a weekend. I want somewhere within [X hours]
drive that feels genuinely different from city life. I'm looking for [vibe].
Give me 3 options with a one-paragraph pitch for each.

Activity-first version β€” you know what you want to do:

I want a weekend that's mainly about [hiking / wine tasting / surfing / skiing / etc.]
near [region]. Where should I base myself and what does a good 2-day version of
this look like?

Getting the most out of it

Use a model with web search (Perplexity, Gemini, ChatGPT with Search) for real accommodation and current attraction info. A model without web access will give you solid itinerary structure but won’t have live availability or recent reviews.

Follow up on specifics β€” once you have an itinerary you like, drill into individual items: β€œTell me more about the Sunday morning option β€” what’s the best time to go and is it suitable for someone who’s a moderate hiker?”

πŸ” Leftover Remixes

🌢️ Spicy: β€œI want to do something I’ve never done before. Design me a weekend that’s slightly outside my comfort zone but not terrifying. I’ll tell you a bit about myself: [2–3 sentences about what you normally do].”

🧊 Mild: β€œI just want to actually relax for two days. No packed schedule. Design me a weekend where I do as little as possible but still feel like I went somewhere worth going.”

πŸ’° Budget: β€œPlan me a weekend in [destination] on roughly [budget] total including accommodation. Tell me what to skip to stay in budget without ruining the trip.”
