Cut the Noise

Strip AI responses of filler language, unnecessary preamble, and padding β€” and get answers that start with the answer.

Best for Any time AI is being wordy, hedging excessively, or opening with 'Certainly! Great question!' β€” which is always
When to use When you want a direct, minimal response without the cheerful corporate wrapper

Every AI model has a default personality that leans toward warmth, acknowledgment, and summary. It opens with β€œCertainly!” It closes with β€œI hope this helps!” It bullet-points things that should be prose. This recipe cuts all of that out and gets straight to the point.

The Recipe

Add these constraints to any prompt:

[Your actual request]

Formatting constraints β€” follow these strictly:
- No introductory phrases ("Certainly", "Great question", "Of course", "Sure!",
  "I'd be happy to", "Absolutely")
- No closing summary ("I hope this helps", "Let me know if you need anything else",
  "In conclusion")
- No padding. If a sentence doesn't add information, cut it.
- Use bullet points only for actual lists of items β€” not for prose that
  should flow as paragraphs
- Start your response with the first useful word, not with restating my question
- Direct, minimalist tone. Like a colleague who knows the answer, not a
  customer service rep

The β€œForbidden List” technique

For fine-grained control over vocabulary β€” useful when you’re tired of AI reaching for the same words:

[Your actual request]

Forbidden words β€” do not use any of these under any circumstances:
[word 1], [word 2], [word 3]

If you find yourself about to use a forbidden word, replace it with a
specific, concrete alternative.

Words worth banning regularly: essential, key, comprehensive, robust, leverage, utilize, tapestry, delve, certainly, vibrant, nuanced, groundbreaking, revolutionary, game-changing, seamless, cutting-edge

The β€œone-liner constraint” test

If you want to know whether an AI can actually be direct, add this:

Answer in one sentence. If you can't do it in one sentence,
answer in two. Do not use three.

If the answer requires more length after that, you’ll know β€” and you’ll have asked for the compression first.

Editing an existing AI response

If you’ve already got a response that’s too padded:

Rewrite this more concisely. Remove:
- Any sentence that doesn't contain new information
- All filler phrases and preamble
- The conclusion/summary at the end
- Any hedging language that isn't genuinely necessary

Target: half the word count. Keep all the substance.

[Paste the response]

πŸ” Leftover Remixes

🌢️ Spicy: β€œRewrite your previous response as if you’re a senior analyst presenting to a board that has 90 seconds. Every word earns its place or gets cut.”

🧊 Mild: β€œI want the same information but in a warmer, more conversational tone β€” still no filler, just less formal.”

πŸ’° Budget: β€œWhat’s the single most important thing in your previous response? Give me that sentence only.”
