Asking AI to “act as” a specific expert shifts both the vocabulary and the depth of the answer. A generic “help me with my business plan” gets a different response than “act as a venture capitalist who has seen 500 pitches — tear my business plan apart.”

The Recipe

Act as a [specific role — e.g., "senior UX designer", "experienced divorce lawyer", "startup CFO"].

Your task: [what you want them to do]

My situation: [all relevant context]

Please respond as that expert would — using the vocabulary, frameworks, and level of detail appropriate for that role. If there's something important I haven't told you that you'd need to know, ask me.

Example — Getting UX feedback

Act as a senior UX designer with 15 years of experience and strong opinions about conversion optimization.

Your task: Review my landing page copy and layout description and tell me what you'd change.

My situation: I'm launching a B2B SaaS tool for small accounting firms. The page currently has: a headline saying "Accounting made simple", a 200-word feature list, one screenshot, and a "Book a Demo" CTA. Conversion rate is under 1%.

Please respond as that expert would — tell me the top 3 problems and how you'd fix each one. Don't be gentle.

Good expert roles to try

Note: AI isn’t a licensed professional. For medical, legal, or financial decisions, use this for orientation and education — then consult a real expert.

🔁 Leftover Remixes

🌶️ Spicy: Use multiple experts: “First respond as a [Expert A]. Then respond as a [Expert B] who would completely disagree. Then tell me where the truth probably lies.”

🧊 Mild: Just ask: “What would a [expert type] think of [my situation/plan]?”

💰 Budget: “What’s the one question a [expert] would immediately ask that I haven’t thought about?”
